Variety: Gala (Apple)

Gala is a premium dessert apple variety renowned worldwide for its crisp bite, fine texture, and naturally sweet, aromatic flavor. Ripening early to mid-season, Gala produces medium-sized fruit with an attractive red-striped skin over a golden background, making it highly appealing for fresh consumption. Thanks to its excellent eating quality, reliable yields, and adaptability to different climates, Gala has become a cornerstone variety in modern commercial orchards and the parent of many successful red-colored sports grown globally.

Gala was developed in New Zealand in the 1930s through a breeding program of the DSIR New Zealand (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research), the predecessor of today’s Plant & Food Research.
